New Zealanders wishing to adopt a child from Fiji will be required to follow the overseas adoption requirements as follows:
- The adoptive parents will have the capacity to provide a suitable standard of care.
- The adoptive parents will be motivated to enhance a child's future development
- The adoptive parents will have the emotional and personal capacity to be stable and concerned parents.
- The adoptive parents will be the ones mainly involved in raising, maintaining and educating the child.
- There will be a significant period of dependence by the child upon the adoptive parents.
