Work Permit

The Immigration Department will consider applications for work permit on merit on a case-by-case basis. Applications for work permit must be accompanied by the following documents:
  • where possible a clipping of the advertisement in the local newspaper
  • the name(s) of the local understudy/counterpart and details of the training programme for the training of a citizen(s) of the Fiji Islands in the work for which the application for a work permit is made;
  • police reports in respect of the applicant and his/her spouse from their countries of citizenship and/or residence where they have lived for twelve months or more in the last ten years;
  • medical reports which are less than three months old in respect of the applicant, his/her spouse and children;
  • A certificate from a competent authority or documentary evidence acceptable to the Director of Immigration that the applicant has adequate knowledge of the English language.
  • The requisite application fee which at present is F$465.00. A work permit is usually issued for three (3) years. It is advisable to have a confirmed job offer before applying for a work permit. Application for a work permit must be lodged from outside Fiji (i.e. one cannot lodge a work permit application whilst in Fiji).

Professional Entertainers

Entertainers require a Fiji based sponsor who will need to submit the following to the Immigration Department in Suva:
  • Details of sponsor, e.g. copy of company registration including details of the directors.
  • Copy of agreement between the sponsor and entertainer
  • Clearance from the Department of Inland Revenue
  • Proposed venues and dates of performances

Investor’s Permits

Investors with investments worth at least FJD 250 000 may initially be given seven (7) year permits while investors with lesser amounts may be given three (3) year permits. Application forms for Investor Permits can be obtained from:
